A.W. “Max” Maxwell, age 72, of Nocona, TX passed away January 24, 2004 in Nocona, TX.
Mr. Maxwell was born March 10. 1911 in Smithville, TX. He marred Ava Jean Bowman on June 6, 1969 in Gainesville, TX. He was a foreman in the pipe fitting business and of the Baptist faith. He had been a resident of Nocona,TX for the last 16 years.
Funeral services for Mr. Maxwell were held Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. L.C. Smith officiating. Interment was at a cemetery in Lindale, TX under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Jean Maxwell, Nocona, TX; three daughters, Carolyn Whitecotton, Bowie, TX, Kathy Allison, Olathe, KS and Betty Brodie, Alvarado, TX; one son, Archie Brodie, Jr.; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one sister, Mary Lou Allen, San Antonio, TX: and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, James Wesley Maxwell in 1966, his mother, Lillian Holloway in 1998; his father, Lum Holloway in 2003; and one son-in-law, Thomas Whitecotton in 2003.
Charlene “Willis” Woods...
Charlene “Willis” Woods, age 81, of Forestburg, TX passed away January 31, 2004 at the Pecan Tree Manor in Gainesville, TX.
Mrs. Woods was born June 28, 1922 in Leo, TX to Claude Alvin and Eliza Barker Willis. She married Kenneth Norman Woods on October 24, 1943 in Fort Worth, TX. She was a homemaker and a member of the Foresturg Methodist Church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Woods were held Sunday, February 1, 2004 at 2:00 at the Forestburg Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Kruger officiating. Interment was at the Forestburg Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: her daughter, Patsy Martin, Austin, TX; two sons, Kenneth Woods, Boerne, TX and John Woods, Forestburg, TX; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Eliza Willis; her husband, Kenneth Woods; and one brother, John Willis.
Pallbearers included: Billy Cops, Roy Metzler, Pat Dieter, Brett Kuhn, Chris Edwards and Harroll Cain.
Rev. John Wesley Morrison...
Rev. John Wesley Morrison, age 75, of Bowie, TX passed away January 30, 2004 in Bowie, TX.
Rev. Morrison was born October 27, 1928 in Floydada, TX to Wilson and Essie Morrison. He married Ernestine Unchurch on April 1, 1950 in Clayton, NM. He was a member of the Carter Lake Baptist Church and was ordained into the ministry at the Carter Lake Baptist Church on July 24, 1988. He taught the men’s Sunday School classes, ministered to the elderly in nursing homes in Bowie and was instrumental in building the inside of the Bowie Mission as well as teaching Sunday school at the Mission. He was a retired air conditioning technician for the school system.
Funeral services for Rev. Morrison were held Monday, February 2, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fry Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Underwood officiating. Interment was at Briar Creek Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Ernestine Morrison, Bowie, TX; three daughters, Deborah Ann Ackley, Ft. Worth, TX, Dianna Lyn Caldwell, Cleburne, TX and Brenda Sue Wells, Roanoke, TX; one son, John W. “Butch” Morrison, Weatherford, TX; sixteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Carolyn Richey, Saginaw, TX and Billie Mae Rexrode, Amarillo, TX; four brothers, Homer Harp, Ft. Worth, TX, Charley Morrison, Friona, TX, Jean Morrison, Lone Grove, OK and Joe Ray Morrison, Joshua, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson and Essie Morrison; two brothers, Jerry Lee Morrison and J.R. Morrison; and one sister, Clara Rich.

Billie C. Fraser, age 82, of Bowie, TX passed away January 26, 2004 in the Bowie Memorial Hospital in Bowie, TX.
Mr. Fraser was born April 27, 1921 in Flowery Branch, GA. He married Fayteen Trainham on July 3, 1943 in Frederick, OK. He was a security guard and was a member of the First Christian Church of Bowie, TX. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII.
Funeral services for Mr. Fraser were held Thursday, January 29, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clyde Markee officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Fayteen Fraser, Bowie, TX; two daughters, Billie Gilliland, Bridgeport, TX; Blanche Ann Conner, Weatherford, TX; two sons, Tommie Charles Fraser, Azle, TX and James Fraser, Springtown, TX; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one brother, Joe Fraser, Lilburn, GA; one sister, Sara Speer, Stone Mountain, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bennie L. McMurray...
Bennie L. McMurray, age 82, of Nocona, TX passed away January 27, 2004 at Wichita Falls, TX.
Mr. McMurray was born August 23, 1921 in Texas. He married Thelma Rose Dea December 11, 1946 in Henrietta, TX. He retired as a supply officer at the Wichita Falls State Hospital, was of the Baptist faith and was in the Coast Guard in WWII. He was the chief of Oak Shores Volunteer Fire Department for twenty years.
Graveside services for Mr. McMurray were held Friday, January 30, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crestview Cemetery in Wichita Falls, TX under the direction of Jerry Woods Funeral Home in Nocona, TX.
Surviving relatives include: three sons, Wallas Adcock, Nocona, TX, David Adcock, San Antonio, TX and Authur Adcock, Alexandria, VA; fourteen grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren; and one special companion and friend, Imogene Caroland, Wichita Falls, TX.

Robert E. Lee Mayo, age 89, of Bowie, TX passed away January 31, 2004 at the Bowie Memorial Hospital in Bowie, TX.
Mr. Mayo was born May 18,1914 in Gordonville, TX to Henry and Emmer Mayo. He married Nellie Geneva Mayo on August 3, 1967 at Marietta, OK. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bowie where he was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Mr. Mayo operated the Bait Shop in Bowie for many years and was known as the minnow man.
Funeral services for Mr. Mayo were held Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fry Funeral Home with Rev. Ben Wiseman and Rev James Mayo officiating. Internment was at the Sunset Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.

Joyee “Joy” Clayre Rogers Black, age 68 of Forestburg, TX passed away January 27, 2004 at her residence in Forestburg, TX.
Mrs. Black was born November 2, 1935 in Cincinnati,
OH. She married Charles Jackson Black, Jr. on May 13, 1955 at Brooklyn Avenue Methodist Church in Dallas, TX. She was a member of the Forestburg Baptist Church. She worked at Bellmire
Healthcare Facilities in Bowie as a Nurses Aide and Activity Director and also as a Medication Aide for sixteen years. She was a Camp Fire Leader and an active member of the North Texas Council in Wichita Falls, TX.
A Memorial service for Mrs. Black was held Saturday, January 7, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kris Barnett officiating. Services were under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: her husband, Charles Jackson Black, Jr., Forestburg, TX; one daughter, Jennifer Leah Yarbrough, Callisburg, TX; one son, Charles Jackson Black, III, Forestburg, TX; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by her parents, R.C. and Dorothy Rogers; and one grandson, Gabriel Allison.

Anna Louise Cardwell, age 87, of Nocona, TX passed away January 26, 2004 at the URHCS 11th Street in Wichita Falls.
Mrs. Cardwell was born December 19, 1916 in Waurika, OK to Annie Mae Aston and Jess Jennings. She worked for Reserve Life and Commercial Travelers Life Insurance Company as an agent for thirty years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cardwell were held Thursday, January 29, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Scott-Morris Chapel with Rev. Bryan Parks officiating. Interment was at the Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: her daughter, Ann Beddingfield, Nocona, TX; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and three sister in laws.

Mildred Price Akers, age 97, of Saint Jo, TX passed away February 2, 2004 in Horizon Manor Nursing Home in Nocona, TX.
Mrs. Akers was born January 30, 1907 in Montague County, TX to Ollie P. Cooper and Etta (Meharg) Cooper. She married Jim Price in June of 1925. After his passing she married Jack Akers in 1966. She was a homemaker and worked at the Dairy Spot in the early 1950’s and then at Pedigo Drug Store and Lee’s Pharmacy until the mid 1980’s. She was a member of the Saint Jo Church of Christ for over sixty -five years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Akers were held Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at the Saint Jo Church of Christ in Saint Jo, TX with C.E. Cole officiating. Interment was at Mountain Park Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: two sons, Cooper Price, Saint Jo, TX and Moore Price, DeSoto, TX; nine grandchildren; fourteen grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; and one brother, Earnest Cooper, Las Vegas, NV.She was preceded in death by her husbands; Jim Price and Jack Akers, one son, Donald Price and wife, Evelyn; six brothers, Austin Bess, Winstead, Gordon, Bud, and infant Cooper; one grandson, Michael Keith Price.

Doyle “Tooter” Hendley, age80, of Nocona, TX passed away January 27, 2004 in Ft. Worth, TX.
Mr. Hendley was born August 11, 1923 in Cooper, TX to Thelma Hendley and Leon Taylor. He married Frances Julie McCubbins August 30, 1947 in Baird, TX. He was in the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific. He worked as a Mill Right. He was of the Church of Christ faith.

Mr. Pittman was born December 8, 1951 in Fort Worth, TX. He was an equipment operator for the county of Montague. He was a member of the Assembly of God church in Sunset, TX. He was a resident of Bowie for 45 years.
Funeral services for Mr. Pittman were held Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ernie Patterson and Rev. Charles Reed officiating. Interment was at Smyrna Cemetery in Smyrna, TX.
