Jewel Jackson McGregory...
     Jewel Jackson McGregory, age 94 of Nocona, TX passed away in Nocona, TX. 
      Mrs. McGregory was born May 4, 1909 in San Angelo, TX. She married A.L. McGregory December 16, 1926 in Montague, TX. She was a resident of Nocona, TX since 1999; previously a resident of Bowie, TX since 1924. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bowie, TX since 1927 and a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and the Reddy-McClellan VFW Post #8789 Ladies Auxiliary. She was elected Montague County Treasurer in 1974 and served until 1983. She was a star route mail carrier from 1961 until 1983. 
     Funeral services for Mrs. McGregory were held Sunday, May 2, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bowie, TX with Rev. Ronnie Lawson officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
     Surviving relatives include: three grandchildren; Gregory Lee Keck, San Antonio, TX, Brenda Rae Keck, Valdosta, GA and Gwenda Kay Keck Wren, Rockwall, TX; four great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; one son-in-law, Jack Keck, Nocona, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy Mae Keck on April 3, 1994; her husband, A.L. McGregory on January 15, 1961; and two sisters, Margaret Elenor “Mugs” Riley and Polly Chase.
     Pallbearers included: Jack Bryton, Chad Keck, Wade Wren, Ron Wren, Bob McGregory and Caroll Keck. Honorary pallbearers included: Dick Allen, Cecil Keck and David Keck.

 

Billy Ray “Tooter” Pennington Jr. ...
     Billy Ray “Tooter” Pennington Jr., age 35, of Bowie, TX passed away May 5, 2004 near Decatur on Hwy. 287. 
     Mr. Pennington was born May 6, 1969 in Muenster, TX to Billy Ray Pennington Sr. and Jimmie Parks. He was employed by Patterson Drilling Company. 
Funeral services for Mr. Pennington were held Saturday, May 8, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Keith Barbee officiating. Interment was at Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home. 
     Surviving relatives include: his fiancée, Chasity Hawkins, Bowie, TX; his parents, Billie and Robbie Pennington, Nocona, TX and Jimmie and Hugh Scott, Olney, TX; his children; Billy Lynn Pennington, Nocona, TX, Stormy Raye Pennington, Bowie, TX and Dylan Wayne Pennington, Nocona, TX; step sisters, Michelle and Mellita, OK and Laurie Hudson, Olney, TX; step brothers, Tommy Tubb and Stephen Scott, both of Olney, TX, and Brad Tarpley, Nocona, TX. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Greer. 

 

Ruby N. Lemons Case...
     Ruby N. Lemons Case, age 76 of Ringgold, TX passed away May 5, 2004.
      Mrs. Case was born September 14, 1927 in Ringgold, TX to Robert (Bob) and Elsie Lemons. She married Bro. Sammie R. Case and together they raised their family in Montague County. 
Graveside services for Mrs. Case were held Thursday, May 6, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ringgold Cemetery with Bro. Grady McCord officating. Services were under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
     Surviving relatives include: one daughter and son-in-law, Sue and W.R. Yarbrough, Nocona, TX; one daughter-in-law, Terrie Ann Case, Beebe, AR; 3 grandchildren; one grandaughter - in - law; and two great grandchildren; one brother, Elmer Lemons, Mineola, TX; two sisters, Pearlie Ballard, El Monte, CA and Alma Cross, Bowie, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sammie Case and her daughter, Peggy Case.

 

Amos Monroe Strange...
     Amos Monroe Strange, age 86, passed away May 5, 2004 at Baylor All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth, TX.
     A Nancy Roberta Tanner Strange. He served in World War II as a Chief Petty Officer of the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Australia, Hawaii and the Philippines. He was ordained as a lay minister on December 5, 1965 by Azle Avenue Baptist Church of which he was a long-time active member. His prominent livelihood was as the sole proprietor of Amos Lock and Key Supply in Fort Worth, TX. 
     Funeral services were held Friday, May 7, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church of Nocona with Rev. Scott Moore officiating. Interment was at the Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
     Surviving relatives include: his wife, Anna Mae McLaughlin Strange; one daughter, Lynda Joyce Strange; and living siblings, Rena Estelle Strange Taylor, Joseph Timothy Strange, Jr. and Carroll Edwin Strange.

 

Myrtle Anemone Greenwood Poteet...
     Myrtle Anemone Greenwood Poteet, age 86, of Alvord, TX passed away May 4, 2004 in her home in Alvord, TX. 
     Mrs. Poteet was born December 28, 1917 in Montague County near Forestburg, TX to Burly and Rhoda Greenwood. She attended school in Nicholville and Alvord. Myrtle married J.T. Poteet on July 21, 1939 in Marietta, OK. The moved from the New Harp area to Roswell, NM where they lived thirteen years and then moved back to Alvord in 1954 where she has lived ever since. She was a homemaker and a school librarian for the Alvord School System until her retirement in 1988. 
     Funeral services for Mrs. Poteet were held Friday, May 7, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Alvord Church of Christ with C.E. Cole and Roy Deaver officiating. Interment was at the New Harp Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
     Surviving relatives include: her daughters, Anita Hancock, Alvord, TX and Olita Lanier, Forestburg, TX; one son, Lawrence Poteet, Gainesville, TX; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Homer Aston Greenwood, Palestine, TX; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Poteet on January 11, 1984, an infant daughter, Ruth Ann Poteet; and three brothers, Andrew, Lawrence, and Gary Greenwood.
     Pallbearers included: Wall Lanier, Jeff Lanier, Samuel Herman, Gary Hilton, Carrol Collier and David and Thomas Poteet.

 

Jim Keith Hughes....
     Jim Keith Hughes was born January 18, 1968 in Bowie, TX to Alice and Bobby Hughes. He worked as a motor man for Pattersons-UTI Drilling Company. He enjoyed working and being with his family. Jim passed away May 5, 2004, at the age of thirty-six in Decatur, TX. 
     Jim was preceded in death by both of his grandmothers, Rosa Hughes and Patta Ford. He is survived by his children, Brandie Kay, Chelsie Nicole and Dillon Keith Hughes of Bowie; his loving parents, Bobby and Alice Hughes of Bowie; five sisters, Pam Johnson of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Dianne Jones and husband, Glenn, of Jacksboro, Texas, Jodi Schulz and husband, Kevin of Minot, North Dakota, Jean Meyers and husband, Danny, of Bowie, and Patsy Grimsley and husband, Kyle, of The Colony, Texas; and one brother Robby Hughes and wife, Teena, of Elk River, Minnesota.
     Funeral services for Mr. Hughes were held Monday, May 10, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Dwayne Lamberson officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the directions of White’s Family Funeral Home.
     Casket bearers included: John Ingram, Dempsey Ross, Jeff Byas, Will Weaver, Nick Hughes and Stacy Trayler.

 

Gary Carr...
     Gary Carr, age 52, of Fort Worth, TX, passed away May 6, 2004 in Bellevue, TX.
     Mr. Carr was born August 21, 1951 in Bowie, TX to J.T. Carr and Mattie Bell Carr. He married Susan “Candi” Carr on June 5, 1993 in Weatherford, TX. He was a drafting detailer. He was a member of the Fountain of Life Church in North Richland Hills, TX. 
     Funeral services for Mr. Carr were held Monday, May 10, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bellevue, TX with Pastor Mike Terry officiating. Interment was at the Holly Hills Memorial Park in Granbury, TX under the direction of Fry Funeral Home. 
     Surviving relatives include: his wife, Susan “Candi” Carr, Fort Worth, TX; one son, Lance LeMay, Wichita Falls, TX; four daughters, Paulette LeMay, Granbury, TX, Tiesa Castillo, Sherman, TX, Dawn Schuller, Bellevue, TX and Shasta Carr, Wichita Falls, TX; his mother, Mattie Bell Carr, Chico, TX; four grandchildren; Andrew Floyd, Granbury, TX, Coal Castillo and Anacollie Castillo, both of Sherman, TX and Cope LeMay, Wichita Falls, TX; four sisters, Melody Wallace, and Cheri Rhoads, both of Bellevue, TX, Toni Boner, Chico, TX and Ceilia Brown, Wichita Falls, TX; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, J.T. Carr in 2000 and his father -in-law, Robert E. Stevens in 2000.
     Pallbearers included: Tim Stevens, Trey Brown, Jason Gilmore, Bill Lewis, Henry Ceniceros and Vernon Bruce. Honorary pallbearers included: Andrew Floyd and Coty Brown.

     Linda Kaylene Everett, age 62, of Carrollton, TX passed away Friday, May 7, 2004 in Carrollton, TX. 
     Mrs. Everett was born October 13, 1941 in Waurika, OK to Loffie and Ima Marney Ball. She married Bill Everett May 27, 1982 in Waurika, OK. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. 
Graveside services for Mrs. Everett were held Monday, May 10, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home. 
     Surviving relatives include: her husband, Bill Everett, Carrollton, TX; one son, Stephan Paul Adkins, Wichita Falls, TX; one daughter, Shelley Ann Adkins, Nocona, TX; five step children, Billy Everett, Jimmy Everett and Mike Everett, all of Wichita Falls, TX, Linda Espinosa, Colorado Springs, CO and Loretta Barney, Austin, TX; sixteen grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

     Darwin Keith Litts was born May 16, 1958 in Bowie, Texas to Donald and Sue Litts. He worked as an oil field driller for Pattersons-UTI Drilling Company. He enjoyed being with his family. Keith passed away May 5, 2004 at the age of forty-five in Decatur, Texas.
Keith was preceded in death by his father, Donald Litts; stepfather, Thomas Tettleton; father-in-law, Foy Ford; one one sister, Toni Tettleton. He is survived by his wife, Janice Ford Litts of Bowie, TX; children, Cory Litts and wife, Erin, of Montague, Texas, Chanda Riddles and husband, Kenneth, of Forestburg, Texas, Ceason Johnston and husband, Cody, of Stephenville, Texas, Chariti Ford and Alex Tettleton of Bowie, Texas; mother, Sherma Sue Hachtel, of Montague, Texas; four brothers and three sisters, James Tettleton of Montague, Texas, Steve Tettleton and wife Nikki, of Bowie, Texas, Pam Pendergraft and husband, Michael Jr., of Saint Jo, Texas, Terry and Lynn Litts of Cheek, Oklahoma, Ari Dawn Litts of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Allison Litts of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; stepmother Peggy Litts of Cheek, Oklahoma; mother-in-law, Janie Ford of Bowie, Texas; three brothers-in-law, Wayne Ford and wife, Laura, of Crowley, Texas, and Floyd and Loyd Ford of Bowie, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Mayo and husband, Leonard, and Risa Black and husband, Tony, all of Bowie, Texas; six grandchildren, Hunter, Tarren, Bryson, Rowdy, Ciara and waiting the arrival of baby boy Wayden Keith Litts; and numerous nieces and nephews.
