Ted Gates...
     Ted Gates, age 62, of Nocona, TX passed away May 15, 2004 in the Denton Regional Hospital in Denton, TX.
      Mr. Gates was born May 18, 1941 in Pampa, TX to Dorothy Hatfield and Jess Gates. He married Ann Heil on August 28, 1964. He was a retired secondary science teacher, retiring from Stanton ISD and had been teaching for thirty-one years. He was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Church where he served as a Deacon. He was a member of the South Plains Archaeological Society. 
      Funeral services for Mr. Gates were held Monday, May 17, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shepherd of the Hills Church with Rev. Walter Haynie officiating. 
      Surviving relatives include: his wife, Ann Gates, Nocona, TX; one daughter, Lisa and husband Stephen Baring, Spring, TX; his mother, Dorothy Broadaway, TX; two grandchildren, Ethan and Elise Baring, Spring, TX; two sisters, Jerrie Becknell, Dale, TX and Alice Owens, North Richland Hills, TX; and one brother, Jesse Gates, North Richland Hills, TX.
      Memorials may be made to the Shepherd of the Hills Baptist Church Building Fund.

 

Jana Kae Armstrong...
      Jana Kae Armstrong, age 37, of Wichita Falls, TX passed away May 16, 2004 in Wichita Falls, TX. 
       Mrs. Armstrong was born July 22, 1966 in Corpus Christi, TX to Leta Smith and Tom Armstrong. She went to school at Ryder High School in 1987 and was a member of the Church of Christ. 
        Graveside services for Ms. Armstrong were held Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Nocona Cemetery with Rev. Norman Lowrie officiating, under the direction of Jerry Woods Funeral Home.
     Surviving relatives include: her parents, Tom and Leta Smith Armstrong, one brother; and several nieces and nephews. 

 

Leo Henry Sicking...
      Leo Henry Sicking, age 89 of Muenster, TX passed away May 11, 2004 in Muenster, TX.
      Mr. Sicking was born August 22, 1914 in Muenster, TX to Bernard and Mary Felderhoff Sicking. He attended Sacred Heart School then worked with the construction lines that furnished the first electricity to rural Muenster, TX. He was a lineman for Rural Electrification Association and in 1941 became line superintendent for Cooke County Electric Co-op. He oversaw the growth of some 2300 miles of electric lines over the next forty years and even after retirement offered his expertise by doing part-time work. He married Martha Elizabeth Knabe on Ocotober 1, 1940 and they purchased a farm north of Muenster. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Knights of Colombus. 
      Funeral Mass for Mr. Sicking was held Friday, May 14, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Muenster, TX with Rev. John Ohner, OSA celebrating. Interment was at the Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
      Surviving relatives include: his wife, Martha Sicking, Muenster, TX; three daughters, Sharlene Depold, Lake George, NY, Annette Anderson, Dallas, TX and Karen Wiggins, Richardson, TX; four sons, Charles Sicking, Plano, TX, Kevin Sicking, League City, TX, Dan Sicking, Bay City, TX and Dean Sicking, Lincoln, NE; eighteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Rohmer and Irene Klement, both of Muenster, TX; two brothers, Ollie Sicking, Muenster, TX and Ernest Sicking, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Fights; and six brothers, Martin, Frank, Edward, Paul, Joe and Bernard Sicking.
      Pallbearers included: his grandchildren, Michael Rowton, Jeff Stanley, Matthew Wiggins, Ryan Wiggins, Cason Sicking and Atticus Sicking. Honorary pallbearer will be Herbic Knabe.

 

Joy McGee McDonald...
     Joy McGee McDonald, age 80, of Alvord, TX passed away May 11, 2004 in her home in Alvord, TX.
      Mrs. McDonald was born February 25, 1924 in Park Springs, TX. She married Robert L. McDonald and was a member of the Alvord Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School. She was a seamstress at Howard Woolf dress factory in Bowie and Lorch-Westway Manufacturing in Decatur. She then retired to be a caregiver for the elderly for several years. She and her husband were some of the founding members of the Wise County Antique Auto Club and were involved for many years. She was an avid quilter, and seamstress, and loved to crochet. It was once said there was never a baby born in Alvord who did not receive a pair of crocheted booties from Mrs. McDonald. She was a model for the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31. 
      Funeral services for Mrs. McDonald were held Friday, May 14, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Alvord Church of Christ with Rev. C.E. “Sonny” Cole and Rev. Ed Cate officiating. Interment was at the Alvord Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
     Surviving relatives include: her husband, Robert L. McDonald, Alvord, TX; three sons, Mike McDonald, Krum, TX, Dan McDonald, Hurst, TX and Randy McDonald, Alvord, TX; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marjorie Christine Skinner...
      Marjorie Christine Skinner, age 72, of Nocona, TX passed away May 11, 2004 in Nocona, TX. 
      Mrs. Skinner was born July 7, 1931 in Ringgold, TX to Ina Roberts, and Willie Evans. She was married to T.P. Skinner for fifty-one years. She was a bookkeeper for Justin Industries, Nocona Boot Company, Chapman Auto and Lipscomb Auto. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nocona, TX.
      Funeral services for Mrs. Skinner were held Friday, May 14, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Nocona, TX with Rev. Bryan Parks officiating. Interment was at the Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
      Surviving relatives include: her husband, T.P. Skinner, Nocona, TX; her children, Tom and Jodye Skinner, Nocona, TX, and Pam Phillips, Wimberly, TX; and grandchildren, Staci Leigh and Heathe Heller, Haslet, TX, and Trent Paine Skinner, Nocona, TX.
      Pallbearers included: Jim L. Keck, Doug Gaston, John Billings, James Billings, Trent Skinner and Heathe Heller.

 

Hulon Piner Griffis...
    Hulon Piner Griffis, age 89, of Saint Jo, TX passed away May 13, 2004 in Sherman, TX. 
    Mr. Griffis was born July 12, 1914 in Muenster, TX to Willie Belle Davis and William Piner Griffis. Hulon grew up in Saint Jo on the family farm where he helped his father with the farm work. He later moved to Culver City, CA and worked as a baker some twenty-five years. He moved back to Saint Jo, TX where he has been for the last forty years. He was a fifty year Mason. 
Graveside services for Mr. Griffis were held Monday, May 17, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mountain Park Cemetery in Saint Jo, TX, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
    Surviving relatives include: sisters, Doris Adrian and Margaret Hovis, Saint Jo, TX; brothers, Tilford Griffis, Saint Jo, TX and David and Bobby Griffis, both of Wichita Falls, TX; one special lady friend, Jean Haverkamp; longtime caretaker and niece, Linda Powers; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and William Griffis; two sisters, Pearl Brady and Clara Scott; and brothers, Weldon, Wendell and Scott Griffis.

 

Donnie Bowden...
     Donnie Bowden, age 85, of Nocona, TX passed away May 16, 2004 at the Nocona General Hospital in Nocona, TX. 
    Mrs. Bowden was born December 10, 1918 in Mina, AR to Effie Thomason and Alexander Griffin. She married Benjamin Carroll Bowden on December 26, 1938. She worked at the Bowie Memorial Hospital as a Switchboard Operator before retiring and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. 
      Funeral services for Mrs. Bowden were held Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Scott-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Joe Thedford and Shelly McNew officiating. Interment was at the Lindale Cemetery in Bowie, TX under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
     Surviving relatives include: her children, Glenda Stringham, Grapevine, TX; Benny Carroll Bowden, Nocona, TX; and Martha Miller, Nocona, TX; seven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and one brother, Alex Griffin, Bowie, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Carroll Bowden on January 25, 1994.
