Annie Laurie Branson...
     Mrs. Annie Laurie Branson, 80, a resident of Bowie for the past fifty-eight years, passed away October 22, 2004 in Bowie Nursing Center, Bowie, TX.
     She was born February 25, 1924 in Jasper, TX to Thoms Britton and Ethie (Childers) Walters. On February 8, 1942, she married Norman Birnie Branson in Jasper. Mrs. Branson was a homemaker and a member of Carter Lake Road Church of Christ in Bowie. She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary, was a seamstress for Howard Woolf Dress Factory many years, and was a member of the Wichita Falls Antique Car Club and the Lone Star Antique Car Club in Arlington, TX. She was also a member of Bowie Hospital Auxiliary.
     Funeral services were Monday, October 26, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Carter Lake Church of Christ in Bowie with Jimmy Cox officiating. Fry Funeral Home directed the service.
Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery.
     Pallbearers were Rob Branson, Mark Millsap, David Hankins, Hardy Dent, Doug Andreasen and Breck Graves.
     Survivors include: two sons, Bud Branson and his wife Teresa of Burkburnett, TX and Jim Branson and his wife Nancy of College Station, TX; one daughter, Martha Andreasen and her husband Terry of Bowie, TX; one sister, Mary Helen Graves of Jasper, TX; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
     Mrs. Branson was preceded in death by: her husband, Norman Branson, Sr., one son, Thomas B. Branson; one brother, James “Bubba” Thomas Walters and her parents, Thomas Britton and Ethie (Childers) Walters.

 

Dorothy Louise Irwin...
     Dorothy Louise Irwin, 48, of Ringgold, TX, passed away on October 22, 2004 in Ringgold.
     She was born February 18, 1956 in Matador, TX to Thomas and Gladys Beard. She was a homemaker and a six month resident of Ringgold. She was a former resident of Brownwood, TX.
Graveside services were Sunday, October 24, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Ringgold Cemetery, Ringgold, TX with Rev. James Turner officiating. Fry Funeral Home assisted with the service.
     Survivors include: one daughter, Doris Denise Ortega of Brownwood, TX; two brothers, T.J. Beard of Brownwood, TX and David Beard of Valverde, AZ; six sisters, Betty Cunningham of Early, TX, Mary Robinson of Amarillo, TX, Wanda McKinley of May, TX, Ruth Dickerson of Whitney, TX, Judy Walters and Debra Kelley, both of Brownwood, TX; grandchildren, Alex and Ashley Martinez of Goldthwaite and Jaylen Ortega of Brownwood, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews.
     Mrs. Irwin was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Gladys Beard and one sister, Nelda Carnes of Ringgold.

 

Alvin Ray Gilmore, Sr....
     Alvin Ray Gilmore, Sr., 53, of Nocona, TX, passed away on October 22, 2004 in Nocona.
     He was born September 26, 1951 to Gilbert Lee Gilmore and Delores Louise Clarke Gilmore. He married Cherrie Sue Bieber June 29, 1979 in Nocona. Alvin worked for Nocona Boot Company for twenty-one years. He was in the U.S. Army for a short time. He attended Bibleway Mission Church.
Graveside services for Mr. Gilmore were on Sunday, October 24, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at the Nocona Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Coats officiating. Scott Morris Funeral Home of Nocona directed the service.
Survivors include: his wife of twenty-five years, Cherrie Sue Gilmore of Nocona, TX; children, Alvin Ray Gilmore, Sr. and Toni Gilmore, both of Bowie, TX; sisters, Darla Gilmore and Linda Gilmore; three grandchildren, Mackenzie & Stephen & Zoe Foster of Nocona; and numerous nieces and nephews, in-laws and friends.
     He was preceded in death by one son, Marcus Lee Gilmore in 1982.

 

Ouilda M. (Cook) Beavers...
     Quilda M. (Cook) Beavers, 86, a longtime resident of Forestburg, TX, passed away on October 24, 2004 in Bristow, OK.
      She was born July 31, 1918 in Dye Mound, TX to Odus R. and Vashti (Wilson) Cook. She was a member of the Forestburg Methodist Church, past president of the Forestburg P.T.A., and a “Past Worthy Matron” of the Saint Jo Chapter of the Eastern Star, and a member for 58 years. She was an accomplished seamstress and never met a stranger.
     Services were on Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Forestburg Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Yarborough officiating. McCoy Funeral Home of Saint Jo directed the service.
Burial followed in Perryman Cemetery, Forestburg, TX.
     Pallbearers were: Robert Crump, Todd McCommas, Jeff McCommas, Kyler McCommas, Kevin Casteel, Zachery Cole, Eric Ellzey and Charles Cook.
    Survivors include: two daughters, Dama Crump and husband Warren of Ponca City, OK and Dianna McCommas and husband Bobby of Chandler, OK; one sister, Helen Ellzey of Forestburg, TX; one brother, H.D. Cook of Forestburg, TX; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
     She was preceded in death by her parents.
     Memorials may be made to the Rainbow Health Care Communities, Alzheimer’s Unit, 111 E. Washington, Bristow, OK 74010.

 

C.C. Kirby...
    C.C. Kirby, 74, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2004 in Bowie, TX.
    He was born October 29, 1929 in Terral, OK to Clovy and Cloe Salters Kirby. He married Helen Henderson July 30, 1949, celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary this year. Mr. Kirby served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He enjoyed farming and ranching.
     Memorial services were Saturday, October 23, 2004 at First Baptist Church, Terral, OK. Rev. Mike Henson officiated. White Family Funeral Home directed the service.
     Survivors include: his wife, Helen Kirby of Bowie, TX; son Bruce Kirby and his wife, Pat of Lewisville, TX; daughter, Deborah Kirby of Dallas, TX; four grandchildren, Cody and Chad Edwards, Clint and Chase Kirby; two sisters, Doris Williamson an her husband, Howard of Duncan, OK and Madge Jones of Cache, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.
     Mr. Kirby was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Zionzell Johnson.
     Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rural Texas in Bowie or the Terral Cemetery Association.

 

Viola Mae Fletcher....
     Viola Mae Fletcher, “Granny Mac”, 97, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2004 in Bowie, TX.
     She was born April 22, 1907 in Durant, OK, the daughter of George and Tilley Elizabeth Shaw North.
     She was a homemaker and loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 252 for seventeen years.
Funeral services were Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in the Drawing Room of White Family Funeral Home with Rev. Jamie Reed officiating. White Family Funeral Home directed the service.
Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery.
     Casket bearers were her grandchildren, Gary Starnes, Steve Starnes, John Howland, Michael Starnes, Kerry Starnes and Jerry Starnes.
     Honorary pallbearers were Ronnie & Jeff Fletcher.
     Survivors include: her sons, Edgar Starnes and his wife, Bertha of Bowie, TX; C.R. Starnes and his wife, Erika of Colorado Springs, CO, Mac Fletcher and his wife, Edna of Pottsboro, TX, Cliff Fletcher and his wife, Patsy of Austin, TX; twenty-four grandchildren; fifty-three great-grandchildren; fifty-five great-great grandchildren; two great-great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Frances Alvida Stone...
     Frances Alvida Stone, 85, of Saint Jo, TX, passed away on October 22, 2004 in the Nocona Nursing Home.
     She was born September 12, 1919 in Saint Jo, TX to Samuel Harwood and Vertie Helm Harwood. Frances was a member of the First Baptist Church in Saint Jo and had worked as a cook in the nursing home in Saint Jo.
     Graveside services for Mrs. Stone were Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Park Cemetery in Saint Jo with C.E. Cole officiating. Scott-Morris Funeral Home of Nocona directed the service.
     Survivors include: her children, Myrna Cantrell and Kay Casey, both of Saint Jo and Michael Stone of Texarkana, TX; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1990 and a granddaughter, Monica Cantrell in May, 2004.

 

“Mike” Michael Pendergraft Sr....
     “Mike” Michael Pendergraft Sr., age 49, of Nocona, TX passed away October 20, 2004 in the Nocona General Hospital.
    Mr. Pendergraft was born February 28, 1955 in Nocona, TX to James Henry and Hazel Lee Curnuette Pendergraft. He worked as a Derrick Hand for Mercer Well Service, Jones Drilling and for Mitchell Energy. He was a member of the Nocona Chapter of AA, where he served as president.
     Graveside services for Mr. Pendergraft were Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Starkey Cemetery with Rev. Rod Messer officiating, under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
     Surviving relatives include: his wife, Doris Hill Pendergraft, Nocona, TX; his children, Michael Pendergraft Jr. Montague, TX, Maria Roof, Christy Borden, and Kenzie O’Neal, all of Nocona, TX; twelve grandchildren; one sister, Beckey Brewer, Nocona, TX; one brother, Richard Pendergraft, Nocona, TX; and mother, Hazel Pendergraft, Nocona, TX.
