Billie Jean Sheen Smith...
     Billie Jean Sheen Smith, 77, of Arlington, TX, passed away on October 3, 2004 in the Arkansas House in Arlington, TX.
      She was born November 13, 1926 in Montague County to the late William and Eva Sheen. She married Gay Gary Smith in 1943 in Love County, OK. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Church of Christ. She loved to crochet, draw, sew and was an avid gardener. She was a loving mother, wife grand and great-grandmother.
     Survivors include: one daughter, Lynda Knightstep and husband Ronald of Atascadero, CA; one son, Joe Smith and wife Vickie of Venus, TX; sisters, Juanita Harvill of Brenham, TX, Francis Gardenhire and Elizabeth Jenkins of Blackwell, TX, Sue Boyd of San Antonio, TX, Nell Flowers of Baton Rouge, LA; brothers, Bob Sheen of Colorado City, TX and Donald Sheen of Lamesa, TX; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
     She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband and brothers Clifton Weldon Sheen and Bert Sheen.
     Services were Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at McCoy Funeral Chapel in Saint JO, TX under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home with C.E. Cole officiating. Burial followed in Dye Mound Cemetery, Montague County, TX
     Pallbearers were Bo Dunn, Rodger Dunn, Snooks Dunn, Charlie Dunn, Doug Gaston and Doyle Cook.

 

Christine O. Younger...
     Mrs. Christine O. Younger, 86, of Bridgeport, TX, passed away October 2, 2004 at Trinity Care Center in Bridgeport, TX. 
     She was born December 26, 1917 in Troup, TX. On June 1, 1939 she married P.C. Younger in Rusk, TX. Mrs. Younger was a member of Morris Memorial United Methodist Church in Chico, TX. She had worked for Haggar Slack Factory in Bowie, Browder Oil Gas Station and Johnson Grocery in Chico, TX. She lived most of her life around Park Springs, TX.
     Survivors include: two sons, Doug Younger and wife Dianne of Bridgeport, TX and Don Younger and wife Pat of Park Springs, TX; nine grandchildren, Donald Meekins of Bridgeport, TX, Mitzi Meekins of Ardmore, OK, Bryan Younger of Bryson, TX, Leann Younger of McKinney, TX, Shawn Younger of Park Springs, TX, Holly Morgan of Wichita Falls, TX, Eric Younger of Crafton, TX, Preston Younger and Jason Younger, both of Park Springs, TX; ten great grandchildren.
     She was preceded in death by: her husband, P.C. Younger; one son, John Younger; one brother J.W. Ledford; and one sister, Barbara McCay.
     Funeral services were held on Monday, October 4, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home in Bowie with Rev. Darius McKay officiating. Services were directed by Fry Funeral Home.
Interment followed in Sunset Cemetery, Sunset, TX.
Pallbearers were Donald Meekins, Bryan Younger, Shawn Younger, Sean Morgan, Jason Younger and Preston Younger.
      Memorial contributions may be made to Morris Memorial Methodist Church in Chico, TX.

 

Bobbie Jean Dorman...
     Bobbie Jean Dorman, 67, was called from this life on October 1, 2004 in Bowie, TX.
     She was born July 12, 1937 in Bowie, TX to Robert and Mildred Thompson Dorman. She married J.D. Dorman on October 3, 1954 in Bowie. She worked for the First National Bank for twenty-eight years before retiring in December, 1999. Her pride and joy were attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She enjoyed collecting dolls, sewing, and planting in her flower garden.
     Survivors include: her husband of 50 years, J.D. Dorman of Bowie; daughter, Terri Hughes and husband David of Bowie; son Tim Dorman and wife Synda of Bowie; six grandchildren, Lee, Matt and Michelle Hughes, Holly, Taylor and Riley Dorman, all of Bowie, TX; three sisters, Gwen Shaw and husband Vernon of Bowie, Betty Nowlin and husband John of Omaha, TX and Shirley Burris and husband James of Naples, TX.
      Funeral services were Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Carter Lake Road Church of Christ in Bowie with David Hall, Larry Miller and Benny Slack officiating. White Family Funeral Home directed the service.
     Interment followed in Hopewell Cemetery.
Casket bearers were: Holly, Taylor and Riley Dorman; Lee, Matt and Michelle Hughes; Lowell Moon and John Rowlett.

Carl Wayne Bennett...
     Carl Wayne Bennett, 39, of Wichita Falls, TX, passed away on September 28, 2004 at Hospice of Wichita Falls.
      He was born November 19, 1964 in Wichita Falls and attended school in Ringgold and Wichita Falls. Mr. Bennett was a painter & carpenter.
      Survivors include: his wife, Danna Bennett of Wichita Falls, TX; two sons; two brothers, Hiram Bennett of Bellevue, TX and Howard K. Bennett of Copperas Cove, TX.
       Graveside services for Mr. Bennet were on Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Ringgold Cemetery, Ringgold, TX with Rev. John Robles officiating, under the direction of Fry Funeral Home of Bowie.

 

Charles Ray Blankenship...
      Charles Ray Blankenship “Charlie”, 72, of Nocona, TX, passed away September 27, 2004 in Nocona General Hospital.
      He was born October 27, 1931 in Bridgeport, OK to Burnest E. and Lois Farmer Blankenship. Mr. Blankenship served in the U.S. Army for twenty-one years, during the Korean & Vietnam Conflicts. He was a postman in Nocona in the 1980’s. On November 7, 1951 he married Beverly Piper in Oklahoma City, OK.
      A memorial services was held Friday, October 1, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Stephen Burg officiating. Scott-Morris Funeral Home directed the service.
Survivors include: his wife, Beverly Blankenship of Nocona, TX; children, Charles Blankenship, Jr. (Chuck) of Norman, OK; Nancy Blue of Mid West City, OK, Susan Schondel of MO, Jeff Blankenship of Mead, OK and Donna Gilles of Peidmont, OK; sisters, Joanna Massey of Brandford, CT, Gayle Bullock of Oklahoma City, OK; brothers, Frank Blankenship of CA and Bud Blankenship of FL; sixteen grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by one son, Allen Blankenship.

 

Gertrude Marie Zemlicka Bateman...
     Gertrude Marie Zemlicka Bateman, 76, of Midland, TX, passed away on September 24, 2004 in an Odessa Hospital.
      She was born December 9, 1927 in Glidden, TX to the late Raymond and Mary Zemlicka. On June 1, 1947 she married Sam Bateman in Houston, TX. They moved to Midland, TX in 1974. She and Sam were world travelers, living and visiting briefly in several foreign countries. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Midland for many years, along with membership in various clubs and organizations. She liked to crochet, paint, garden, play bridge, golf and cook. Mrs. Bateman was a loving mother, wife, sister and grandmother. 
      Survivors include: her sons, Douglas and wife Suzi Bateman of Tulsa, OK and Donald and Penny Bateman of Midland, TX; sisters, Virginia Booth of Cleburne, TX, Delores and husband Bobby Hagan, Johnnie Mae and Troy Thorton, all of Houston, TX; nine grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
Services were at noon Saturday, October 2, 2004 in McCoy Funeral Chapel in Saint Jo, TX with Rev. John Ohner, O.S.A. officiating. 
     Interment followed at Mountain Creek Cemetry. 
Pallbearers were her grandsons and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mary Zemlicka and her husband, Sam Bateman.

 

Thelma Alice Ritchey...
      Thelma Alice Ritchey, age 86, of Abilene, TX passed away September 27, 2004 in Abilene, TX.
Mrs. Ritchey was born April 7, 1918 in Saint Jo, TX to William B. and Zena Warner Martin. She married Grady Ritchey and was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist Church. Mr. Ritchey preceded her in death in August, 1996.
       Funeral services for Mrs. Ritchey were held Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Interment was at Mountain Park Cemetery in Saint Jo, TX under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
       Surviving relatives include: her children, Gwen Fisher, Abilene, TX, Grady & Pat Ritchey, Nocona, TX and Rita Brown, Tucson, AZ; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Cain, Decatur, TX, Jo Hardison, Montague, TX and Lois McVeigh, Redding, CA; and three brothers, James Ray Martin, Alvord, TX, Billy Martin, Saint Jo, TX and Charlie Martin, Nocona, TX.
      Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605.
