Rick C. Upton...
     Rick C. Upton, 77, of Nocona Hills, TX, passed away December 2, 2005 in Nocona.
     He was born June 19, 1928 in Seattle, WA. On June 26, 1970 he married Joan Cole. Mr. Upton was retired from the U.S. Army, where he served 2 tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the DAV and the Roadrunners. He was the gate guard at Nocona Hills.
     A memorial service will be held at a later time, under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home of Nocona, TX.
     Survivors include: his wife, Joan Upton of Nocona Hills, Tx; three children; thirteen grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren.

 

Dr. Otis Raymond Vowell...
    
Dr. Otis Raymond Vowell, PhD., passed away , Dec. 3, 2005 at Bowie Memorial Hospital, Bowie, TX.
     Mr. Vowell was born on Jan 2, 1934 in LaGrange, GA. He served honorably in the US Navy for 11 years, and was a Mason for over 30 years. He pastored churches in Texas and Georgia. Most recently, he pastored in Sunset, TX and at Union Hill Baptist Church. He was a resident of Bowie for the past 5 years.
     A memorial service is pending for Friday, December 9, 2005 at 10:00 a.m., at the Sunset Baptist Church, Sunset, TX. Arrangements by Heritage Family Funeral Home, Bowie, TX.
     He is survived by his wife, Fay Vowell, Bowie, TX, one son Ray Vowell, Bowie, TX; one daughter Katherine (Kitty) Estes, Irving, TX, 4 grandchildren; one sister, Martha Allene Wolard, Clarksville, TN.
     He is preceded in death by his parents Otis and Fern Vowell of LaGrange, GA.
 

 

Lena Allen...
    
Lena Allen, age 94, formerly of Bowie, TX, passed away November 28, 2005 in Roswell, NM.
     Mrs. Allen was born June 24, 1911 in Bowie, TX. She married R.D. Allen on June 28, 1935 in Waurika, OK. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Bowie, TX and taught in public schools at Bird Hollow, Boren and Fruitland, TX. She worked for the National Forest Service for eleven years in Gallup, NM.
     Funeral services for Mrs. Lena were held Thursday, December 1, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church in Bowie, TX with Rev. Dwayne Lamberson officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Heritage Family Funeral Home.
     Surviving relatives include: three daughters, Ann Miller, Medford, OR. Linda Shelton, Bowie, TX and Sharon Cosby, Roswell, NM; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Hulse, Gary, TX and Reeda Glisson, Castro Valley, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, R. D. Allen; her parent, Nannie Carver; one daughter, Neida Jordan, one grandson, Joel Allen Haviland and several sisters and brothers.
Pallbearers included: Will Robertson, Mark Robertson, Alex Cosby, Jess Cosby, R.D. Briono, Jim Carver, Lane Robertson.

 

Nickolas James Paris...
    
Nickolas James Paris, 84, of Nocona, TX, passed away December 2, 2005 in Nocona.
     He was born August 8, 1921 in Niles, CA to James Nicholas and Mary Caludeanos Paris. He married Georgia Kurluris in 1948. Mr. Paris was a College Professor at Los Angles Tec School and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He served in the US Navy and in the Merchant Marines.
     Funeral services were Monday, December 5, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Scott-Morris Chapel in Nocona, under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
     Burial will be Thursday, December 8, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. in Forrest Lawn Cemetery, Covina, CA.
     Survivors include: his wife, Georgia Paris of Nocona, TX; three children, Jim Paris, Allison Marie Gibbons and Steven Eugene Paris; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

 

Ronnie Lynn Oliver...
     Ronnie Lynn Oliver, 61, passed away Friday, December 2, in Bowie, TX
     Graveside Service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Salona Cemetery with Reverend Darius McKay officiating under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home.
     Mr. Oliver was born July 13, 1944 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Harvey Francis and Bernice (Thompson) Oliver. He was employed thirty four years with Lonestar Gas Company. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing and hunting. He loved spending time with family and attending his grandchildren’s sports activities.
     He is preceded in death by his father, Harvey Oliver.
He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Radcbaugh and her husband, David of Hugo, Oklahoma; sons, Steve Oliver of Curbank, Montana and Toby Oliver and his wife, Jody of Bowie; eleven grandchildren; one great granddaughter; his mother Bernice Oliver of Bowie, Texas; brother Thomas Oliver of Wichita Falls, Texas; sister, Janice Bedwell and her husband, Mack of Durant, Oklahoma; brother brother Johnnie and his wife, Jeannie Oliver of McKinney; sister, Sheila King of Wichita Falls, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Billie L. (Prestwood) Coleman...
     Billie L. Prestwood Coleman, 79, passed away Monday, December 5, 2005 in Wichita Falls, TX.
     She was born October 23, 1926 in Bowie, TX to J.W. and Lizzie Bell (Gordon) Prestwood. She attended several rural schools in the Bowie area and graduated Bowie High School in 1943. Billie went on to graduate from the Draughon School of Business in Wichita Falls. While attending, Billie met and later married Quentin R. Coleman of the U.S. Army Air Corp on April 22, 1944 in Wichita Falls. She followed Quentin’s Army career where he was stationed in Texas, California, Colorado and Alabama. After WWII she supported Quentin in the Conoco Sesimograph business as they “doodlebugged” through Texas, Oklahoma and Wyoming raising their two children. Billie worked as an office manager for the State of Wyoming Department of Social Services and retired in 1992. Quentin and Billie moved to Bowie in 1993 and were active members of the Carter Lake Road Church of Christ Church.
     Funeral service for Mrs. Coleman will be Thursday, December 8, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Carter Lake Road Church of Christ with David Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemtery, under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home.
     The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 til 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include: her son, Randall Q. Coleman of Bowie and Linda L. Coleman-Smith and husband, Craig of Worland, WY; two granddaughters, Charity (Fernandez) Glanz of Worland, WY and Roberta (Bobbie) Fernandez of Phoenix, AZ; two brothers, Bob Prestwood of Naples, TX and Homer Prestwood of Bowie, TX.
     Mrs. Coleman was preceded in death by her husband, Quentin Coleman in August 2003, brother, J.B. Prestwood in 1987, father J.W. Prestwood in 1989 and her mother, Lizzie Bell Prestwood in 1992.

Wanda Lou Bush Bess...
    
Wanda Lou Bush Bess, of Bowie, TX, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2005 in the Bowie Memorial Hospital.
     She was born August 8, 1929 in Vashti, TX to Porter and Annie Bush. On March 2, 1946 she married Raymond Arvil Bess and lived in Bowie over 58 years. She was a homemaker, seamstress and a faithful member of First Christian Church of Bowie. Mrs. Bess was a loving person who helped anyone she could.
     Funeral services were Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Bowie, under the direction of Heritage Family Funeral Home.
     Burial followed in Brushy Cemetery.
     Survivors include: her husband, Arvil; son Arvil, Jr. of Bowie, TX; daughter, Nancy Peyton of Bowie, TX; three grandsons; one great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
     Mrs. Bess was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother.

 

Henry “Buddy” Tate...
     Henry “Buddy” Tate, 74, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2005 in Wichita Falls, TX.
     Graveside services for Mr. Tate were Saturday, December 3, 2005 in Elmwood Cemetery with Rev. Wayne James officiating, under the direction of White Family Funeral Home.
     Buddy was born December 26, 1930 in Byers, TX to Leon and Ruth (Chadwick) Tate. He married Virginia Hodges on June 13, 1949 in Burkburnett. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He owned Tate & Tate Construction. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by Rocky Lyle and Terry Lee Tate.
     He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Virginia Tate of Bowie, TX; two sons, Dallas Tate and wife,    Ellen of Bowie, TX and Ozzie Tate of Gainesville, TX; daughter, Josie Tate of Bowie, TX; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren; seven brothers, B.J. Tate of Jolly, N.W. Tate of Wichita Falls, Texas, R.D. Tate and C.W. Tate, both of Vashti, Texas, Anthony Tate of Roanoke, Texas, M.E. Tate of Alexandria, LA, and Byron Shane Tate,of Deval, OK; and four sisters, Brenda K. Shanklin, Roanoke, Texas, Candace Bryan of Grapevine, Texas, Dana Reynolds of Oklahoma and Nelda Stowe of Bellevue, Texas.
