Horace James Walker...
   
Horace James Walker, 87, of Montague, TX, passed away January 8, 2006 in Nocona, TX.
     He was born September 27, 1918 in Montague, TX to Harry and Bessie Prentice Walker. Mr. Walker was a retired Navy Chief, serving 20 years. He served in WWII in the Pacific and Atlantic Theaters. He was a member of the Methodist church.
     Funeral services were Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Interment followed in Montague Cemetery, under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
     Survivors include: his children, Harry Walker of Montague, TX and Allen Walker of Arlington, TX; one brother, Raymond Walker of Nocona, TX; and two grandchildren, Michael and Susan Walker.

 

Nettie Florence Hargrove Payne...
    
Nettie Florence Hargrove Payne, 98, of Nocona, TX, passed away in Nocona on January 8, 2006.
     She was born May 17, 1907 in Clyde, TX to Emmit Archie and Carrie Lou Howard Housewright. Mrs. Payne was a member of the Church of Christ and an avid gardener. She loved the outdoors, and family always came first.
     Funeral services were Thursday, January 12, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Nocona, TX with Dale Scott officiating. Interment followed at 3:30 p.m. in the Bokchito Cemetery.
     Survivors include: her children, A.L. “Pee Wee” Hargrove of Washington; Audrey Long of Nocona, TX; Lois Netherton of Douglass, TX, Evelyn York of Colbert, OK, Ellen Davis of Washington, Linda Knight of Fort Worth; one sister, Cora Mae Riley of Tishomingo, OK; twenty-nine grandchildren; sixty great grandchildren; and thirty great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
     Mrs. Payne was preceded in death by: her parents; her first husband, William Hargrove; her second husband, Leonard Shelby Payne; one son, Bunk Hargrove; six sisters; two brothers; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

 

Nelda Jean Bowden Beck...
     Nelda Jean Bowden Beck, 72, passed away Monday January 9, 2006 in Fredericksburg, TX.
     She was born October 11, 1933 in Fort Worth, TX to Guinn and Hazel (Whitley) Bowden. She was a graduate of Bowie High School and moved to Dallas in 1976. She married Thomas Beck in 1978 and was a homemaker. She had a passion for reading and writing.
     Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the Drawing Room of the White Family Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of White Family Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Elwood Cemetery.
     The family will be at the funeral home Friday from 6 until 8 p.m.
     Survivors include: her children, Steve J. Cure of Dallas, Sherry J. Owens of Fredericksburg and Deann Edwards of New Orleans, LA; three grandchildren, Ashley Garfield, Hunter Cure and Chance Edwards; one sister, Annette Fulk of Waco, TX.
     Mrs. Beck was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Thomas Beck.
 

 

Billy Ray Large...
    
Billy Ray Large, age 76 of Bowie, TX passed away January 5, 2006 in Bowie, TX.
     Mr. Large was born September 25, 1929 in Ravenna, TX to Othel Elmer and Verba Bell Large. He married Mae Large March 28, 1991 in Bowie, TX. He was a member of the Methodist faith, a life time member of the Reddy McClellan VFW Post #8789 and a life time member of the Speake-Meyer American Legion Post #252. He had served in the Army Air Corp during WWII.
     Funeral services for Mr. Large were held Monday, January 9, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Bowie with Rev. Mike Henson officiating. Interment was at the Sunset Cemetery under the direction of the Heritage Family Funeral Home.
     Surviving relatives include: his wife, Mae Large, Bowie, TX; five daughters, Helen Fay Hughes, Fort Worth, TX, Kathy Gail Ewing, Irving, TX, Carolyn Rae Chastain, Quinlan, LaVera Ann Wragg, Irving, TX; Lana Sue Todd, Grand Prairie, TX; two sons, Billy Wayne Large, Irving, TX, Benny Joe Large, Irving, TX; at least twenty-five grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one step daughter, Tammy Price, Wylie, TX; two step sons, Daniel and Brian Reed, Bowie, TX; two step grandchildren; one sister, Martha Sue Rattan, Bonham, TX; three brothers, Douglas Wayne Large and William Large, Ector, TX, and Charles Large, Bell, TX; two half sisters, Ruth Lockaby, Irving, TX and Valeta Abbott, Bonham, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Othel Elmer and Vera Bell Large; his wife, Ila Faye Large and one son, Bobby John Large.
